While in Miami do as the Miamians do. Here are some things you must know and a shortlist of must-do's in Miami.
If you live in Florida, then Miami could be a hotspot for you to spend a weekend getaway. Here are some things to keep in mind when you decide that Miami. Think traffic, excursions beach views, and more.
Need to know:
Hotel & Parking
When it comes to your stay in Miami be prepared to pay for parking. The hotel I stayed at was mandatory Vallet parking. Which I really didn't mind because renting a drop-top red mustang was the vibes and that deserves Vallet all day. That costs $30 a day.
The hotels will tax you for sure! For a two-night stay with a half beach half port view it cost over $400 and I stayed in North Beach which is an hour with traffic to south beach. So keep in mind the location of the hotel & what you plan to do.
(The picture above was our view from the 23rd floor and this was only half of what we saw a beautiful beach view was on the other side. You will get what you pay for!)
Traffic
Miami is known for having a very memorable traffic experience. Maybe the streets are too small and crowded or maybe the people are not great drivers. The most important thing to remember is to NEVER let the person with road rage drive.
The streets of Miami are CRAZY. Even the calmest driver will get frustrated. Locals will put themselves in front of you, make themselves fit, and likely look like they're trying to cause an accident simply to get where they want to go. Stay calm & avoid traffic from 4-6 pm.
Must Do's:
Bayside Marketplace
This marketplace is a go-to for all tourists in Miami. Food, Souvenirs, and all types of excursions are here for you to explore. Imagine an outside mall at a marina with tons of restaurants all in one place. Well, that is Bayside.
You are right on the bay so the views are incredible from the restaurants. The mall has got everything from name brands to souvenirs shops. There are also tons of kiosks with small vendors and people who sell excursions like speedboat rides, island tours, and more.
Pool Parties
This view is located in the heart of South Beach! We decided to pay for a rooftop pool party that was an epic experience. We got to indulge in all-you-can-drink for about 3 hours!
The first floor of the hotel was an outside bar and lounge area. The second floor was a rooftop pool with music and a minibar. This was a cool way to meet other people and live like a tourist on vacation!
Street Art Walking Tours
From the Wynwood walls to Graffiti Gardens. Street art is a staple of Miami culture. There are tons of streets, walls alleys, and more covered in art. You can take a stroll during the day and admire the streets of graffiti gardens.
Wynnwood Walls however is where you can catch your eye on hundreds of murals! The area is about 50 blocks of electric paintings with eye-popping colors. It's not just writing on the walls the artists are able to express themselves through art & nothing has stopped them from painting their city as the ultimate canvas.
Speed Boat Tour
The best way to catch a glimpse of these Miami waters is to definitely try the speedboat tour. I purchased mine online and was very impressed by the tour. It was fast and super informative and the jams were on point!
The trip starts off with you waiting for your boat to arrive at the Bayside Marina. Once you hop on then the adventure begins. It was a great way to get some Miami history and waves, the tour lasted about an hour. You can find your ticket here.
